    Johnson Evinrude

Can I fit a Magnum gearcase to my E-TEC that came with a Lightning gearcase?

There is a conversion path and we can supply the instructions for going from a Lightning to a Magnum gearcase. Be aware we only warranty gearcases that are direct replacements for what the engine was originally built with, so in this case the unit would be sold without the 3-year warranty. Tell us your full engine model number and we'll confirm which gearcase yours was built with.

Do you make a counter-rotation gearcase for Johnson/Evinrude?

Yes - for example the 90-308-B covers counter-rotation applications such as the J200CXECM. As with all our J/E units, it doesn't come with the upper driveshaft, shift shaft or water pump, and it comes in black. Send us the full engine model number and we'll confirm rotation and the exact unit - the model number tells us whether it's a counter.

Do you make a replacement for the Magnum 2 gearcase on an Evinrude E-TEC?

Yes - our SE316 is the Magnum 2 replacement, covering many of the E-TEC 200 to 300 HP applications. Note that some engines originally built with a Magnum gearcase were later updated to the Mag 2 case, so the model number is what we go by. You'll reuse your existing upper driveshaft, shift shaft and water screens; the water pump kit and anode are separate. Send us the model number and we'll confirm.

Do you make a replacement gearcase for a Johnson or Evinrude 115?

Yes, though which unit you need depends on the gearcase rather than the horsepower - a 115 can land on our SE305 (90-305-A), the SE306-C or the SE304 depending on the model. That's exactly why we ask for the full engine model number instead of year and HP. None of them include the water pump, upper driveshaft or shift rod, so plan for those alongside. Send us the model number and we'll confirm which one fits.

Do you make a replacement gearcase for a Johnson or Evinrude V4?

Yes - the V4 applications are covered by our SE304 (90-304-A), SE305 (90-305-A), or in some cases the 90-306-C, depending on the exact gearcase your engine was built with. Our units don't include the upper driveshaft, shift shaft or water pump, so most orders also take a driveshaft and a water pump kit. Send us the full engine model number and we'll tell you which one you need.

Do you make a replacement gearcase for a Johnson or Evinrude V6?

Yes - the V6 applications with the 1.83:1 ratio take our SE306 (90-306-B), which covers a wide range of 150 to 225 HP Johnson and Evinrude engines. You'd also want the upper driveshaft and a water pump kit, and a correctly sized thrust washer for your prop. Send us the full model number and we'll confirm which of the SE306 variants matches.

Do you make a replacement gearcase for a Johnson/Evinrude (OMC) outboard?

Yes, for many V4 and V6 applications - but the gearcase TYPE (not just HP or year) determines the right unit, so we need your full engine model number. Note the J/E lower includes the gearcase, gears, prop shaft, and lower driveshaft, but you transfer your water pump, upper driveshaft, and shift rod. Send us the model number to confirm.

Do you make the M1 gearcase, or only the Magnum 2?

We make the M2 (Magnum 2) gearcase, not the M1. Worth knowing: some engines that originally came with a Lightning or L2 gearcase were warranted by BRP with Magnum gearcases fitted in their place, so what's on the engine now may not be what it left the factory with. The main thing to confirm is the shift shaft, since the Magnum version looks different. Send us your model number and photos and we'll identify what you actually have.

I have a Johnson or Evinrude jet drive - is there a gearcase that would fit it?

There is, and which one comes down to whether your powerhead is a V4 or a V6. The 115 HP jet drives are V4s and take our 90-304-A up to 1997, or our 90-305-A from 1998 on. The 150 HP jet drives are V6s and take our 90-306-B. Bear in mind this is a conversion, not a straight swap: the engine has to be able to shift a gearcase, so the shift shaft and shift mechanism need to be there in the midsection. Call or text us on 813-925-7127 with your full model number and we'll confirm what your engine needs before you order.

What's the complete list of what I need to order with a Johnson/Evinrude lower unit?

Typically five things: the lower unit itself, the upper driveshaft, a water pump kit, a correctly sized prop thrust washer, and gear lube (we sell a kit with two quarts and a pump). You'll reuse the anode, shift shaft and mounting hardware from your old unit. On some models the existing driveshaft can be reused, which drops one item - give us the engine model number and we'll build the exact list.
