I have an SE106 that I removed the lower unit to replace the water pump. (BTW... When I dropped the lower I had the boat in nuetral.)
what procedure do I use to align the brass rod with the unit.
Thanks in advance

Put the helm unit in fwd gear, make sure the SS washer is on the splined shift shaft(Series1, Alpha 1 only), prelube impeller with something(soapy water,A/F, etc) rotate splined shaft (Series1 ,Alpha)fully clockwise while turning prop counterclockwise to lock fwd gear.Raise unit up ,insert driveshaft ,rotate prop SLIGHTLY to line up driveshaft splines, insert the 2 side nuts/bolts.line up the brass shift shoes(series1 ,alpha),tighten nuts/bolts.
You need to prelube because you will be turning the impeller backwards and you dont want to flip the vanes over in the wrong direction.

With the boat not running, shift into forward and make sure the prop locks counter clockwise, then try neutral and the prop should not lock either direction. Then shift to reverse and the prop should lock clockwise.
