10 hour lube change

10 hours of breakin and I changed the oil. I use Merc hi performance lube. The magnet had a blob of metal flakes on it and the oil was full of shiny flakes. There was no water. Is this normal? It still has a whine when running which can be heard over the thru hull exhaust.

Small flakes of metal are normal during the break in. You may notice small amounts on your next oil change as the unit gets flushed out. The drive should quiet down the more hours you put on it.

Are small chunks normal? about the circumference of a toothpick?

I wouldn't say chunks are normal. Everything should be very fine. There may be some strands, but they should be much thinner than a tooth pick.
