I am in the process of installing the lower unit (SE106) and I am following the instructions precisely. However, I am able to slide the unit up relatively easily until the final centimeter, then it stops. I've wiggled the shift shafts and it seems to engage. Is it possible that the water tube isn't engaging completely? If it is just a tight fit, would it be acceptable to attach the nuts and tighten the rest of the way (1 cm approx)? Can you think of any other problems that I might be having?
