shifting problems

1986 wellcraft I just put a complete se116 drive on. Im having problems shifting. It seem to go in gear fine for. and rev. but seems to get suck in gear both ways. when the engine is off it seems to work fine could this be an adjustment or linkage problem

Normlly if you are having problems shifting out of gear, it means that the shift cutout switch on the shift bracket is not working. It is supposed to stall the engine slightly as you shift out of gear. I would check that switch out.
