parts replacement

Hello, I am considering using a SEI drive to replace my damaged alpha1. I was wondering; if I need replacement parts in the future, will standard mercruiser parts fit? Obviously gearsets must be matched, but what about gaskets seals, water pumps etc.?

All of the parts are interchangeable, and you are correct, you should not mix the gearsets.
