No o-rings on drive shaft

What purpose do the o-rings serve on the drive shaft? I didn't install mine, I forgot them, and as i trailer the boat and did not think they served any purpose except if the boat got a leak they would slow down the water coming into the boat, should i put them in?

I would install them. I suspect they will help the shaft to turn the gimbal bearing as opposed to the shaft turning inside the gimbal bearing.

Ok I will put them in, what about the bigger one, whats that for? The o-ring slot thats toward the splines?

That is for the newer style greasable coupler. If you do not have a greasable coupler, then it doesn't matter if you install it or not.
