Drive Shaft installation

I just purchased my new johnson lower unit from SEI and it looks great. I installed my old shift shaft onto the LU but when i went to install the drive shaft i ran into a problem. I cannot get the shaft to slide into the retaining nut. I can get it partially on (enough to turn the prop shaft) but cannot get it all the way down. any suggestions? i considered a rubber mallet, but don't want to damage anything. should it slide on easily or does it normally require some coercing?

You have to force the driveshaft into the clip that is in the lower driveshaft, so you will need to use force. A rubber mallet will be fine.

thanks admin. i will give it a shot tomorrow. makes me feel better knowing that a little pressure won't hurt it.
